Brindley Avenue was built upon land once owned by the Marple Brindley's in the early 1800's. The land was originally named, Chapel Acres and Hibberts Piece and was inherited by Thomas Brindley, butcher of Marple, from his father Francis.

The building about half way down from the top and 3/4 way in from the left of the picture is 28 and 28A Church lane. At the back of this building, on Brindley Avenue, there was a building, thought to be stables? and an orchard (just visible on the picture and apparently overgrown), that were demolished and built on in 1970/71. I am interested in any info anyone might have on these as I lived at 28 from 1969-1972 and have only a distant memory of the buildings and orchard that were there.

Hi Michael I remember the stables just about but i can remember the houses being built on the land, A lad who was a couple of years younger than me lived there he was called Andrew Baume I think his Dad still lives there, I used to knock about with you when you lived at the shop i lived on Shirley avenue
