Marple Library / Scout Hut

At the time of the photo this was the first purpose built Public Library in Marple. With the Hollins Mill chimney in the background we know the photo was taken prior to 1957. Later this building would become (and still is) Marple Scout Hut. From Marple Local History Society Archives.

Bill Beard (Marple Local History Society Archives) says: We've been trying to pin down the date of the library opening, so far unsuccessfully, but this gives us a good start. I did use the library in the later 1950s when studying for GCE O levels but couldn't date it more closely than the second half of the 1950s and this pic pins it down a bit more.
