John Jones later lived in Marple where he had been asked to preach in the original Marple Chapel. He was a nonconformist of the Congregational persuasion and preached in several Chapels in Marple until 1660 where he preached at Mellor Chapel. Due to his nonconformity he was met with much opposition and later forced to preach from his own house. He was later seized and imprisoned at Chester. He died in Manchester in August 1671, age 72.
