Charles Ingham Bandroom Opening

On Sunday 18 May 2014 the former Park Keeper's Cottage in Marple Memorial Park was officially opened by the Mayor of Stockport as The Charles Ingham Bandroom, new home to The Brass Bands of Marple. A "Brass in the Park" concert was put on by The Marple Band and Hawk Green Band to celebrate this achievement.

Hawk Green Festival 2014

Hawk Green Residents Association Mayday Festival, held in bright sunshine on "The Green" on 17th May 2014. The festival theme was a commemoration of the start of the 1914 -18 war. The event included maypole dancing by children from All Saints Primary School, music from the Hawk Green brass band and a range of stands from local groups and craft stalls.

160 Year Anniversary of "Maria" Narrowboat

On the 20th May 2014 the horse drawn barge Maria, believed to be the oldest surviving wooden narrowboat, arrived at Marple's historic aqueduct on the Peak Forest Canal, on its 160 year anniversary journey of being built at Jinks' boatyard at Top Lock in Marple, and then onward around the Cheshire Ring.

The theme for Marple's 52nd Carnival was MUSIC THROUGH THE DECADES and the traditional midsummer extravaganza on Saturday June 21 rocked - and rolled - back the years just as the Carnival organisers hoped. The weather was absolutely perfect too. As always, if you took any good shots on the day, please send them in to be added to this album.

Marple Festival 2014

2014's Marple Festival focused on the Food and Drink Day on Saturday 13 September. There were events on the Market Street Precinct with bands playing at "Marplebury" on Derby Way and lots of food, drink and charity stalls. There will also be a beer festival and fun day at Marple Cricket Club over the weekend of 19-21 September. This album captures the best moments from the Festival taken by local photographers.
