Gathering at Hawk Green

A gathering at Hawk Green. Note the bonfire on the Ridge in the distance - there are two stories as to when this was. One suggests the coronation of Edward VII (1902) and the other at the end of WW1 (c1918-19). From Marple Local History Society Archives. Registered users can view a larger version of this image.

This photo (Gathering at Hawk Green) I think was the Coronation of Edward as the Spite Houses built in 1911 on the Ridge facing the stone cottages are not yet there, they are the two red brick houses on the right hand side as you walk over the Ridge and so called because they were built to spite the view of the owner of the house opposite, as the story goes. I have a large framed copy of the photo but also have had difficulty dating it but now it looks clearly to be the Coronation. Thanks Kevin Moors.
